The P6/7 football team were delighted to welcome Kirkinriola to our school to compete in a friendly match and test out our new football nets.
Hazelbank got off to a nervous start, as Kirkinriola saw most of the possession, but we contained them well. As we began to settle in, our centre back pinged one in from distance making it one nil! Two more goals swiftly followed and confidence was beginning to show! The match, which was played in 3 thirds, allowed all 11 players to get plenty of playing time and try out various positions. After 4-0, Kirkinriola dug deep and were determined to get on the scoresheet, earning a well-deserved goal. There were a few notable saves from our goalkeeper, with a few lightning-reaction saves. Hazelbank continued relentlessly, attack after attack, with the final score being 7-2. The boys were elated as their fellow classmates came out to cheer them on and witness an excellent performance.
A fantastic occasion in which we hosted a friendly for the first time, both teams played competitively and were sportsmanlike. Well done to all players who participated.
