Cancer Focus NI visit Hazelbank!
Genevieve, the healthy goat visited Primary 1 & 2 today to encourage them to eat healthy foods, have daily exercise and plenty of sleep. The boys and girls in P3/4 were learning about the difference between light, moderate and intense activity and the importance of reaching their target of 60 minutes physical activity per day. P3/4 were also "Food Detectives" today! They investigated the content of processed foods; their fat, sugar and salt content. In Primary 5, Professor UV Ray used UV beads to investigate the effect of sun on our skin. He reminded the children of the "Slip, Slap, Slop, Slide & Shade" approach to sun safety. Primary 6 were involved in the Smokebusters programme - learning about second-hand smoke and how to avoid it. They are aware of addiction to substances and are developing skills to exercise self control. The boys and girls in Primary 7 talked about the harmful effects of cigarette chemicals and role play was used to empower pupils to resist experimentation and help achieve smoke-free environments.
