Our School

150

Hazelbank Primary School seeks to nurture, challenge and educate the individual in a safe, stimulating and disciplined environment where good relationships are fostered and respect for one another is valued.

Hazelbank Primary School opened its doors for the first time on 15 April 1985.  It replaced three small schools, Upper Buckna, Mullindreen and Racavan (also known as Hazelbank).

The first principal was Mr J V Russell who worked hard, in partnership with a committed and enthusiastic Board of Governors and dedicated teaching and ancillary staff, to establish the excellent reputation of this school within the community. Mr Russell retired on the 31 August 2009 after 24 years dedicated, unstinting and inspirational service.

Mr Russell was succeeded as principal by Mrs Beverley Gray. The school went from strength to strength under her leadership. Mrs Gray spent most of her teaching career here at Hazelbank before retiring in August 2024.

Our school is thriving! We currently have an enrolment of 155 pupils taught within 7 single class groupings.

We pride ourselves on being small enough to enjoy the benefits of the warm family atmosphere of a rural school, yet big enough to provide our pupils with the breadth of curricular experiences, opportunities and social interaction necessary to ensure each child fulfils their individual potential.

Happiness, Learning, Success:

Happy staff are passionate about the job they do. Happy children learn more and do better at every level. Happy parents know that school does it’s best for their families. A happy school environment is a joy for all!

We are committed to supporting pupils’ fundamental skills in Numeracy, Literacy and Using ICT whilst providing excellent learning experiences in all the other curricular areas to ensure pupils make progress in their learning.

In order to meet the needs of our pupils we are committed to getting to know them. No matter the interests or ability of the child, we work together to ensure they experience success and achieve excellence at their own level.
