Hazelbank Primary School, Broughshane

Memorial Bench

25th Oct 2023

You will have noticed a very beautiful bespoke bench in the foyer. Hazelbank Primary School has always been blessed with a supportive and dedicated Board of Governors who have given many years of service to the school.

Very sadly this past year we have lost two much valued governors: Mr John Robinson and Mr Grahame Robinson.

Mr Grahame Robinson served for many years on our governors as a parent and then as grandparent. He was a quiet, supportive voice in many a meeting only ever offering help or guidance and always present to support so many school events.

Mr John Robinson was part of the original group who  guided Hazelbank Primary School into being.  After the passing of Mr Eric Russell, he served as chairman from 2006 to 2019 and I certainly would have found the transition to principal much more difficult without his guidance and wise counsel.  He would often pop in, excusing his work clothes for he’d been in the yard painting something or other; and was generous in his quiet guidance and ability to lighten every situation with a kind word and a sparkle in his eye!

I know that both these men are sadly missed by their families but they are much missed by our Hazelbank family also.  Their support as governors was invaluable but more than the meetings, planning and budgeting was their prayerful support of every child in our school.  They prayed for our school and for all the decisions that they made and we could have asked for no better from them.

The bench will be a reminder of their service but more importantly of the faithfulness of these two men.
